My Xtreme Hike Story – by Sabrina, Bentley’s Meme

There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and yes even grandchildren who struggle every day just to breathe. Im hiking this 26.2 miles in ONE day on Sept. 20th for my grandson and hope you will support me in my efforts. As many of you sleep I will be hitting the trail at 3am along with others from VA who are hiking for their loved one as well.

Our family was introduced to the world of Cystic Fibrosis when Bentley was only 3 weeks…he is now 2 years old. It was a very rough Winter for my Grandson between getting his Synagis shots, being treated for Pseudomonas with Tobramycin and struggling with weight gain. However Ashley and Tyler (his mommy and daddy) have stayed on top of all his medical needs. Ashley was planning to attend College after graduating in 2011 to specialize in Sports Medicine. However in her Senior Year out of the blue she changed her major to Respiratory Therapy specializing in newborns and infants. How would any of us had ever known this would be her daily routine not as a College student but as a young mother. Tyler has had to step up and work extra hours to provide even more financial care for his family. Ashley does try to work a few days a week but due to Bentley’s 24/7 medical care, doctor’s appointments etc etc this makes it almost impossible for her to do. Bentley already consumes more then 30 pills a day and over 5 different medicines through his breathing treatments. Bentley was hit recently with another positive test of Pseudomonas a few months ago, but showed yet again how strong of a fighter he is gonna be. There is ZERO funding by the Government for Cystic Fibrosis. So it’s up to families, friends and local communities to come together and raise money for research, for new medicines and for awareness. We too have the hope that CF will soon stand for Cure Found not Cystic Fibrosis. If Bentley and so many others young and old have to struggle everyday then I can and will push myself to complete this hike for this chronic lung disease. I’ve been steadily working out and training for many months for this big day. I’ve always said “I would move mountains for Bentley….but for now I’m climbing them”. One hike, one donation…but a lifetime of hope!

Help me reach my fundraising goal by donating to my Xtreme Hike fundraising campaign. Your gift will help add tomorrows to the lives of people with CF.
